No — and this is where the city's program loses on its own terms rather than on price. Seattle Public Utilities runs a special-items pickup at $30 per item (seattle.gov/specialitems). It's a perfectly reasonable service, and for a single couch with a month of runway it's cheap. But it is by appointment and it is scheduled to your next regular garbage day — which means it is, structurally, days out. There is no expedite. There's no amount you can pay to move it up. And it's curbside only, so even on the day it does happen, getting the item out of the unit and down to the parking strip is still your problem. If the walkthrough is tomorrow morning or the keys go back at noon, the city cannot help you, and finding that out on the phone is a day you don't get back.
King County's transfer stations — Factoria, Houghton, Shoreline, Bow Lake, Renton, Enumclaw and Vashon — are genuinely same-day, and if you own a pickup and have a friend free, that's a legitimate answer. The 2026 gate rate is $40.25 minimum per load up to 320 lb, then $243.38 per ton, plus a $25 unsecured-load fee if the load isn't strapped and covered. What it costs in money is modest; what it costs is a vehicle, a second set of hands, the carry down the stairs, the drive, the queue and the unload — on the day you already have the least time.

Published third-party ranges put a single item at roughly $130–$400 at the former and $150+ at the latter, and a Seattle resident's widely repeated account had a single refrigerator quoted near $400 at the door. Fast doesn't mean careless. Anything genuinely resellable is routed to donation — Evergreen Goodwill, the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity ReStore and St. Vincent de Paul — because a same-day pickup is often just a good sofa with a bad deadline attached. Metal is separated for recycling. Televisions, monitors, computers and laptops are banned from Washington garbage and go through the state's E-Cycle program, which is free, so a TV never rides to a landfill on our truck.
The sorting isn't only ethics. Seattle's SMC 21.36 ban keeps recyclables, yard waste and compostables out of the garbage past roughly 10% contamination, and separated material stays off the $243-a-ton disposal scale and outside the 3.6% refuse-tax base. Doing it properly is what lets the flat price stay flat, even on the days it's booked in a hurry.
No-elevator walk-ups. Capitol Hill's early-1900s apartment stock, First Hill's mid-rises and Lower Queen Anne's 1920s buildings mean a lot of Seattle's urgent jobs are a three-flight stair-carry with no elevator at all. That's the normal shape of a same-day move-out here, and it carries no stair fee and no hill fee — the flat price already assumes the crew is walking it down.
Towers. Downtown, Belltown, South Lake Union and downtown Bellevue want a COI naming building management (typically $1M general liability) before a vendor touches the freight elevator, plus a reserved elevator window and sometimes a dock slot. We can issue the certificate the same day. The elevator is the variable — some buildings will fit you in within hours, others book days out — so if you're in a tower, tell us which one in the first message and we'll work the building while we work the schedule.
West Seattle. The peninsula has a long memory: the West Seattle Bridge was closed for 909 days between 2020 and 2022, and access fragility is still a live local instinct. Our answer is route density — crews already working Alki, Admiral, Delridge and Fauntleroy on a given day — and no crossing surcharge, ever.
